Apartment and Work Place Fire safety - Since each building is unique, you should learn the approved "Fire Safety Plan" specifically designed for your building.
If there is a fire in your apartment you must decide if it is possible to leave or if you are not able to.

� Stay Warm, Stay Safe! Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heating equipment. This includes space heaters, fireplaces, and radiators.
🏠 Before you turn on your heating system, have it inspected by a qualified professional. Regular maintenance keeps your home safe and cozy!
🚫 Never use an oven to heat your home! It’s a fire hazard and can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Choose safe heating options!
🧯 Have a fire extinguisher nearby when using space heaters and know how to use it! Safety is key for a warm winter!
🔌 Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets, not extension cords or power strips. Overloaded circuits can spark fires!
🌬 Check your furnace filters regularly and replace them as needed to ensure efficient operation and reduce fire risks! A clean filter is a safe filter!
🚪 Have an escape plan in case of fire! Make sure everyone in your home knows two ways out of every room, especially if using heating equipment this winter!
👶 Keep children and pets away from heating equipment! Establish a safe zone to prevent burns and accidents during the colder months!
🔔 Test smoke alarms monthly, especially during heating season! Ensure they’re working to keep your home safe from fire hazards this winter!
🏢 Know your escape routes! Familiarize yourself with at least two ways out of your apartment and building. Every second counts in a fire!
🚪 Close before you doze! Sleep with bedroom doors closed to slow the spread of fire and smoke. It could save your life!
🔥 Never use elevators during a fire! Always take the stairs to exit. Practice your escape plan regularly.
🚒 If you can't escape, shelter in place. Close all doors, stuff cracks with towels, and call 9-1-1 from inside your unit.
🍳 Stay in the kitchen when cooking! Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires. Keep your home and neighbors safe.
🚨 If there's a fire in your apartment: Get out, close doors, pull the alarm, and yell "FIRE"! Use stairs, not elevators. Call 9-1-1 when safe. Your quick action saves lives!
🔥 To stay or go? If you can't leave during a fire, protect yourself! Seal doors with tape and wet towels. Call 9-1-1. Stay low where air is cleaner. Safety first!
Feel the door before opening during a fire. Hot? Find another exit. Cool? Leave immediately using stairs. Encounter smoke? Try another stairway or return to your unit.
🏢 Know your building! Familiarize yourself with fire safety features and emergency procedures. Locate all exit stairs on your floor. Be prepared, stay safe!
🆘 If smoke enters your apartment: Call 9-1-1, move to the balcony or most smoke-free room. Seal doors, hang a sheet from window to signal your location. Stay low and await instructions.
